About Therapy

The three types of therapy I specialize in (Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Parent Management Training, Dialectical Behavior Therapy) are all evidenced-based treatments.  That is, there is strong research support indicating that all three types of therapy are effective in reducing problematic thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Cognitive-Behavior Therapy (CBT) is based on the principal that thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are all inter-related, and that by changing one, you can change them all.  Cognitive-Behavior Therapy has been shown to be effective in the treatment of Anxiety, Depression, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), behavior problems in children,  and sleep problems.  For more information about CBT: http://www.abct.org/Public/?m=mPublic&fa=WhatIsCBTpublic

Parent management training (PMT) refers to programs that train parents to manage their child’s behavioral problems in the home and at school.  For more information about Parent Management Training: http://www.apa.org/divisions/div12/rev_est/pmt_child.html

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) has been show to be effective in decreasing suicidality and self-injury, as well as helpful for individuals with a diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder.  For more information about DBT: http://www.behavioraltech.com/resources/whatisdbt.cfm

The focus of treatment, frequency of sessions, length of treatment, and cost are all decided on an individual basis based on individuals’ needs and will be discussed in the first several sessions.
